Gerald "Jerry" Baus, age 54, of Massillon passed away Monday May 26, 2008 at Affinity Medical Campus Doctors Campus. Jerry was born April 23, 1954 in Massillon. For the past 18 years he was employed by Stark Truss. Jerry was in the Massillon Pool League for 36 years, and played softball for the Sportsman's Club. He was a devoted sports fan following the Tigers, Browns and Indians.Jerry was a tough competitor and fighter in everything he did. He made no exception in his battle with cancer. He started playing at the age of six and had been a Massillon Pool League member for 24 years. He carried an average of over 70% during those years. Jerry was a lifetime resident of Massillon. He graduated from Washington High School in 1972 and was a Sawyer by trade. He was also a Vietnam veteran and served in the Army's elite 82nd Airborne.
Jerry was known as one of the "nice guys" on and off the table. He was respected on the table for his ability and sportsmanship and off the table for his fine character. Incredibly, Jerry missed only five matches in 24 years until his final bout with cancer. Jerry played on several championship teams including the Hideaway and legendary Varsity Tavern teams. He was a 3-time MVP in the Massillon league system, a 2-time 5 & 0 winner and 1-time ERO champion. Jerry placed 3rd in the 1977 McDermott Ohio state 8 ball championship. He won countless local tournaments.
Jerry has been quoted saying, "I live for the game!" There is no doubt Jerry died for the game too. He couldn't play in his weakened state. He is probably racking the balls to play Tom Frank and other good pool playing souls that recently passed. He will be missed.

We mourn the loss of a dedicated father, a dear friend and avid pool player. Tom Frank passed away on Monday, December 24, 2007. We will remember him for his honesty and fairness as well as always being willing to lend a helping hand. No matter what we talked to Tom about, he always had a comment, some wisdom or some insight to offer. Actually, Tom's, as well as his team's input, was one of the main reason's we decided to handicap our pool league. He was very concerned that there be a level playing field where the inexperienced players had a chance to win while the better players had to work very hard at winning and not just roll over the rest of the players. We will remember him fondly. He was a very caring and passionate man.Tom is now playing pool with past legends, keeping his head down and never jumping up on a shot. When not running out perfect racks he's making it on the snap and no one is ever heard telling Tom to hurry up and shoot.
